Orion NetFlow Traffic Analyzer provides a new
level of visibility into network traffic behavior and trends. Network
engineers are now able to analyze the full breadth and depth of network
traffic, including the most global view of bandwidth consumption, as well as
the most local view of current, detailed data measured directly from the
devices that create and route the traffic.
|
 |
By leveraging Cisco's NetFlow protocol to
extract data from routers, NetFlow Traffic Analyzer provides an in-depth
view into which users and which applications are consuming the most
bandwidth. NetFlow Traffic Analyzer converts that data into charts and
tables providing network engineers with an easy way to identify and isolate
the cause and source of network problems, as well as provide historical
performance information to help plan for future growth. Pie charts show the
distribution of bandwidth across different types of traffic (e.g., HTTP,
FTP, VoIP) and across different users. Line charts show the usage patterns
over time. NetFlow Traffic Analyzer can also identify the source of external
traffic inbound to the corporate network. |
Network engineers rely on NetFlow Traffic Analyzer to help
ease day-to-day pains caused by the inability to drill down into network traffic
data statistics. Orion NetFlow Traffic Analyzer:
 | Optimizes network resource allocation |
 | Enables quick troubleshooting of network
problems |
 | Profiles users' consumption patterns |
 | Profiles applications' consumption patterns |
 | Enables quick access to traffic data |
 | Minimizes storage costs |
 | Scales to monitor interfaces with
multi-gigabit throughput |

Orion NetFlow Traffic Analyzer
Benefits & Features
Orion
NetFlow Traffic Analyzer provides many robust benefits with supporting features,
but the key differentiators when comparing this product to other offerings in
the market include:
Top-to-Bottom Network
Analysis
NetFlow Traffic Analyzer enables network engineers to quickly examine Cisco
NetFlow traffic data and to drill down into the data to determine traffic by
user, application, department, conversation, interface and protocol. The
integration with Orion Network Performance Monitor provides users with the
deepest drill-down across traffic patterns and into device performance,
resulting in unprecedented visibility into usage, performance and availability
statistics. Competitive offerings merely infer and estimate utilization data.
Optimized Storage Engine
NetFlow
Traffic Analyzer includes a service that intelligently summarizes large amounts
of raw NetFlow data, providing users quick access to historical data while
minimizing storage costs. The raw data is replaced by the summary, allowing the
customer to keep significant amounts of information ready for graphs and tables.
In contrast, other products either limit what the users can keep, or they create
large, hard-to-manage databases with expensive storage costs.
Enterprise-Ready Management
Infrastructure
NetFlow
Traffic Analyzer is built on the mature Orion Network Performance Manager
platform, providing users with all of the enterprise scalability and stability
benefits of Orion. In contrast, other products are relatively new standalone
tools with little track record of standing up to the high volume of NetFlow data
that will be generated by any but the smallest enterprise.
Enable Analytical
Capacity Planning
NetFlow Traffic Analyzer highlights trends in network traffic, allowing network
staff to anticipate changes in bandwidth needs for different parts of the
business and plan accordingly.
Optimize Network
Resource Allocation
NetFlow Traffic Analyzer delivers the data necessary to identify areas of excess
capacity and re-assign bandwidth to areas experiencing bottlenecks without
necessarily increasing spending.
Align IT Resources
with Business Needs
NetFlow Traffic Analyzer shows IT staff exactly what users are doing on the
network, allowing them to adjust their efforts to fully support business
priorities.
Increase Network Security
NetFlow Traffic Analyzer improves visibility into the inbound network traffic,
exposing suspicious activities or anomalous patterns to identify a wide variety
of intrusions, such as the SQL slammer worm, and malware that populate "fake"
e-mail traffic in hopes of overloading Exchange servers.
Orion VOIP Monitor
- Live
demo of Orion with VOIP Monitor
Benefits and Features
Orion VoIP Monitor provides many robust benefits with supporting features, but
the key differentiators when comparing this product to other offerings in the
market include:
VoIP Quality of Service Measurement
Orion VoIP Monitor uses Cisco's IP SLAs to collect network performance
statistics, without intruding on voice calls. These statistics include MOS,
jitter, network latency, packet loss and other important QoS metrics that
provide detailed visibility into VoIP performance. Even better, the Orion Web
console offers a unified view of overall network health as it relates to VoIP
performance, as well as a one-stop shop for alerts and reporting.
Alerts, Graphs and Reporting
Alerts can be created for any IP SLA-based data to notify you of performance
degradation on the VoIP network. This ensures that you will know if and when
thresholds are violated, indicating that parameters are outside of what is
considered "good" for a given WAN link, and can immediately troubleshoot the
issue.
VoIP Monitor also enables you to analyze historical trends with graphs and
reports. These capabilities allow you to perform effective capacity planning for
existing VoIP deployments and to measure expected voice quality in advance of a
new VoIP deployment. Out-of-the-box VoIP QoS reports include statistics such as
MOS, packet loss, jitter, latency and VoIP infrastructure availability over the
last X days, across all call paths.
VoIP Infrastructure Monitoring
With VoIP Monitor, you can designate any network
device (e.g., routers, switches, severs) as part of the "VoIP infrastructure"
and create VoIP-specific alerts based on those devices. Devices are displayed in
VoIP views, enabling you to perform complete fault and performance monitoring of
the VoIP infrastructure.
Cisco CallManager® Monitoring
VoIP Monitor provides out-of-the-box monitoring
of Cisco's CallManager, delivering detailed visibility into performance metrics
that are indicative of the health of the VoIP environment. Monitored elements
include active/inactive phones, active/inactive gateways, and server metrics,
such as CPU utilization, memory, packet loss and average response time.
Auto-Configuration of IP SLA
VoIP Monitor simplifies the configuration of IP SLA on Cisco routers by
automatically configuring the routers to collect VoIP QoS statistics. This makes
VoIP Monitor quick and easy to deploy, saving you valuable time and ensuring
that you reap immediate benefits
The Orion Wireless Network Monitor can
be purchased to extend the monitoring capabilities of the Orion Network
Performance Monitor. This Orion module can be installed on any server which
already has Orion installed. The evaluation version of Wireless Network Monitor
can be installed on either a licensed or evaluation version of Orion. The
following is an overview of its features and capabilities:
Access Point Information
Collect
and view real-time status of wireless access points. View channel and radio
information, power levels and traffic. List all access points (APs) with the
number of clients associated with each AP. From the wireless access point page,
you can view all sessions including their signal strength, data rate and MAC
address. Additional information available includes: deferred energy, CRC frame
errors, devices authenticated, devices roamed-in and devices active.
Client & Session Information
Orion
Wireless Network Monitor tracks client and session data both historically and in
real time. View the historical activity of a client as he roamed from AP to AP.
Graph his signal strength and signal quality over time. View his activity today
or total bytes transmitted and received last month. Orion even has the ability
to enter a MAC address and search the real-time activity for the IP address and
SSID of the targeted client.
Wireless Network Maps
With
the Orion Map Maker included in Orion you can create a wireless network map of
your entire wireless environment. Access point radios will change color based on
their availability. You can even display the channel the AP is transmitting on
as well as the number of current sessions. Maps can be layered allowing you to
view a country, region, campus, building and floor. Maps are refreshed on the
Web automatically, providing the ideal NOC view of the network.
Performance Statistics
Wireless
Network Monitor collects and archives statistics on client and session data, as
well as AP and network data. View the number and bandwidth utilization of
clients on each AP or across your entire wireless network. Statistics can be
viewed on the Web for today, yesterday, last 7 days, last month, last year or
any custom date range. Performance charts include 95th percentile calculations.
Clients are also tracked across multiple APs as long as they touch your network.
Wireless Errors & Syslog
Events
and syslog message are processed and displayed on the corresponding device Web
page. You have immediate access to historical events and network events. The
Orion syslog application has extensive filtering and configuration capabilities
allowing you to view the events and messages that require action. In the event
of a problem, with one click you can Telnet directly into the AP from the Orion
Web page.
When business-critical applications aren’t running at peak
performance – or even worse, aren’t running at all – your help desk queue
starts growing exponentially, along with the angry phone calls. As the trouble
tickets mount, it can be a mad dash to troubleshoot the root cause of the
issue. As the network engineer, usually the buck stops with you, regardless of
whether the problem stems from the application, the server, or the network.
Orion Application Performance Monitor (APM) extends Orion’s
powerful monitoring capabilities to applications and servers, enabling you to
confidently say “It’s not the network!” (or meekly admit, “It is the network.”)
Finally, you can get the visibility you need into the performance of
applications and the underlying operating systems and servers they run on. APM
delivers a one-stop shop for monitoring network, application, and server data in
a single, unified console, enabling you to quickly identify and resolve issues
with business-critical applications – before they affect your end users.
Application Performance Monitor Highlights:
 | Quickly determine the root cause
of application performance issues with a unified view into network,
application, and server monitoring data |
 | Perform advanced monitoring of Windows, UNIX, and
Linux servers by tracking running services, process availability,
number of instances running, memory usage, and CPU utilization via SNMP or WMI |
 | Actively monitor availability of any port on your network,
as well as the responsiveness of critical network services
with out-of-the-box monitors for DNS, IMAP4, POP3, and more |

Orion Hot Standby Engine
The Orion Hot Standby Engine will consistently check the primary systems'
ability to function and record availability and performance data. In the event
of a failure, the Hot Standby Engine will automatically assume network
monitoring responsibility. When a failed polling engine returns to an
operational state, the Hot Standby Engine will automatically return all
monitoring tasks to the original polling engine.
 | Continuously checks the primary Orion system for activity |
 | Automatically takes over monitoring, statistic collection
and alerting if the primary system is down |
 | Automatically enters into "standby mode" when the primary
Orion server recovers |
 | Sends notifications for polling engine failures
|
 | Offers one-to-many failover capability |
 | Runs on a separate server leveraging your existing SQL
database |
 | Includes a redundant Website |
 | Does not back up the Orion database (Uses Database Manager
or SQL Enterprise Manager to perform backups) |
 | Must be installed on a separate server |
